Builder levy biography
I grew up in a family that encouraged art and believed the world needed to be changed. By the s, I thought of myself as an abstract expressionist, trying to make art like de Kooning, Rauschenberg, and Chamberlain: full of directed spontaneity, raw energy, sensuality, and gritty vitality that spoke to me of real life. At that time, people in our nation were marching in the streets for civil rights at home and for peace in Vietnam.
In communities throughout America, people were standing up for their humanity and dignity and struggling for social and economic justice. Levy is currently working on a book and exhibition project of his recent demonstrations photographs interacting with his s demonstration work, focusing on their relevance, relatedness, and intersectionality.
